Another new season is upon us and this one for me, is one of change. As many who follow me on social media will know, I’ve been looking to do something a little different for what will be the fifth season of this Wandering Tractor project. Here’s an insight into what those changes will be…
First and foremost, the major change is that I will be working with my friends at the wonderful Football in Berkshire website to help increase their coverage of the local teams in the Berkshire and surrounding areas, so from the 26/27 season all of my blog and match reports will appear on their website rather than on here. I will still be attending an equal amount of men’s and women’s games during the course of 26/27, all of which will hopefully help FiB to provide wider coverage service for all the teams in the area, from step two to ten in the men’s game and tiers four to seven (and developmental) in the women’s.

That doesn’t mean I won’t still be taking on some longer distance journey’s, I already have a wishlist of possible clubs pencilled in to visit and I’m hoping to be heading off to the South West, Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk and further afield, probably once and occasionally twice a month during the course of the season. I’m planning to use this website more as a total football day out guide for the clubs I visit, how to get there, interesting places in the town/city and of course, the club, facilities (especially the food & drink available!), and with a sprinkling of club history in it too. These will be primarily posted and advertised on a new Wandering Tractor Facebook page while again the full blog & match report will appear on Football in Berkshire.

With many of the league’s fixture lists for the 26/27 season still in the process of being put together, I’ve only got my first few games planned (see below) :-
25/7/26 – Woodley United v FC Deportivo Galicia in the Combined Counties Division One.
1/8/26 – An early return to Maidenhead Town as they enter step six for the first time for the visit of Staines & Lammas.
8/8/26 – A first visit (if I can find a route!) to Tadley Calleva for their FA Cup tie with Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
15/8/26 – A trip into Hampshire for a first visit to the Oak Farm Stadium for the Cove v Laverstock & Ford FA Vase tie.

So that’s the plan and I’m really looking forward to visiting as many different clubs as I can over the course of the season, have a catch up with many friends I’ve made over the past four years and also highlight some of the unsung heroes at the clubs. The archive from the last four years will still be available on here and, with a new search function added, it will hopefully make those a bit easier to access!
Finally I would like to take this opportunity to wish the local teams all the very best for 26/27, it should be a cracking season and hopefully I’ll be seeing a lot of you very soon!
