Moneyfields took the spoils in a tense, hard fought encounter at The Northcourt. Abingdon defended resolutely throughout but eventually lost out to an 83rd minute winner from Charley Wilson-Wilton. The home side’s goalkeeper, Caitlin Crierie, was named their player of the match after making a string of fine saves in the second half.

Moneyfields now move on to play two huge games against AFC Bournemouth in 7 days, both at the John Jenkins Stadium, the first in the determining round of the FAWNL Cup on Thursday and the second in the league on Sunday. Abingdon also face two matches this week, both at The Northcourt, facing Oxford United in the FAWNL Cup on Wednesday followed by a visit from Bristol Rovers on the 1st September.

A battle on the south coast pitched AFC Bournemouth, fresh from their 5-0 visctory against Bristol Rovers last week, against Worthing playing their first game following last weekend’s postponement with Southampton. The Cherries struck first in the 11th minute, a Jenna Markham strike, her fourth goal of this fledgling campaign. Worthing levelled through Tierney Scott in the 19th minute only for Bournemouth to retake the lead just before half time, Alisha Buckingham converting from the penalty spot. Danielle Lane came close to levelling in the second half with a shot that crashed off the crossbar but the game finished in a win and three points for the hosts.

As mentioned above AFC Bournemouth face two tough games with Moneyfields in the next seven days while Worthing face a trip to the Dripping Pan to face Lewes in the Cup on Wednesday evening and return to league action next Sunday at home to Portishead Town.

An end to end encounter was won by a single goal, a fourth minute strike from Keeley Banfield after the Magpies failed to clear a corner. The hosts lost keeper Kenny Clarke to injury in the 15th minute, with striker Izzy Stockton taking over the goalkeepers jersey for the remainder of the game. This game was one of my featured matches this weekend so you can find a full report from that game either via the home page or by clicking here.

Portishead welcomed Keynsham to the Hallam Centre and it turned out to be another tight game. The hosts led 1-0 at half time, their goal coming from a great strike from Kelly Jones. The visitors had a goal disallowed before the break but did get an equaliser in the 53rd minute through Ciara Lundy. The closest we came to a winner was when an Emily Lindsay drive was tipped onto the bar by Keynsham keeper Klaudia Wojtyczka. Both sides taking a well earned point.

Next up for Portishead is a daunting trip to FAWNL Southern Premier pacesetters Exeter City in the Cup on Wednesday evening and are back in league action at Worthing next Sunday. Keynsham face a trip to Swindon Town in the Cup on Wednesday and are now facing Southampton at home on Sunday for the Sirens opening game of the season with the fixture being reversed.

Another close game in a very tight week scorewise, was again won by a single goal margin. A jinking run into the area and a strike into the top corner by Annie Colston was enough to take all three points at the County Ground. Jess Graham came close to adding a second after the break but saw her effort cannon off the post. Bournemouth battled hard but couldn’t force an equaliser.

Next up for Swindon, the visit of Keynsham in the Cup on Wednesday evening followed by a trip to Bridgwater on Sunday. Bournemouth Sports are scheduled to take the short trip to face Southampton in the Cup (playing 5th September) and are back in league action at York Road next Sunday where they’ll take on Maidenhead United.

Southampton’s game was again postponed this week. The Sirens are scheduled to face Bournemouth Sports (playing 5th September) and it has been confirmed they’ll be making their FAWNL South West season’s debut away to Keynsham Town on Sunday with the fixture being reversed.

Bristol Rovers have two away games to contend with in the next seven days. They have been drawn away to Gwalia United at the Newport Stadium in the FAWNL Cup on Wednesday evening and will visit The Northcourt on Sunday to take on Abingdon United in the league.

Check back next week for the Week Three round up of the midweek cup action and next weekends FAWNL South West games.
